Waffles are so much more than just an easy breakfast.
If you aren’t taking advantage of the many possibilities of waffles, you are seriously missing out.

My Story
Although I don’t recall exactly when my waffle legacy began, I suspect it was when I spied my grandmother’s old waffle iron and decided it was a possible solution for feeding a picky toddler.
Fast forward four decades and waffles have become kind of my legacy.
I have made waffles for breakfast, dinner, bed-time snacks, and for every sleepover that ever occurred in our home.
When one of my adult kids’ friends commented on the fun they had “decorating” their waffles following a sleepover, I realized that along with making waffles, I had been making memories.
What started out as an easy and inexpensive way to feed a toddler has morphed into a tradition.
Since I am now making waffles for grandkids, I have a hunch that the tradition will outlive me.
Waffles offer so many sweet possibilities that I encourage every family to make their own waffle tradition.
What’s so special about waffles?
Waffles are versatile.
Waffles are good as a meal or just as a snack.
They are the food equivalent of the little black dress.
Dress them up to make them healthy or dress them down to make a downright sweet treat.
However you dress them, kids and adults alike tend to wolf down their waffles.
Making homemade waffles is EASY!
It’s not necessary to keep premade waffle mix on hand.
I’m still shocked by the guest for whom I made waffles that had no idea waffles could be made without a mix.
Simply keep your pantry stocked with a few basic items and you’ll be ready to serve a delicious meal anytime.
Waffles are CHEAP to make.
Homemade waffles are just pennies a piece to make.
On the evenings I have my grandkids, I have replaced Happy Meals with waffles.
Not only have I gone from spending dollars to cents, the kids get to join in the fun of making them.
It’s easy to feed any size of group.
Whether you need to feed four or fourteen hungry kids, waffles are an easy solution.
Double, triple, or quadruple the recipe as needed.
No matter how many waffles you need to make, the process remains pretty fast and easy.
Waffles are actually fun!
Turn a boring meal into a party by “decorating” waffles.
Enjoy adding toppings.
Honey, chocolate chips, whipped cream, powdered sugar and fruit, are all great toppings for waffles.
Turn your waffle into a base for peanut butter and jelly or brown sugar and cinnamon.
Following a sleepover, or just for fun, put out bowls of toppings and let your kids go to town.
Hint: Save your parmesan cheese containers to use as shakers for toppings like sugar.
Or bake the fun right inside.
Turn a waffle into a cinnamon waffle by adding a little bit of cinnamon to the waffle batter before you fix them.
Chocolate chips added to the batter turns a plain waffle into a chocolatey delight.
Add blueberries to the batter to make a healthier version of waffles.
Have fun and experiment with your favorite additives.
Don’t throw out the leftovers.
Just like the store-bought versions, homemade waffles can be reheated using a toaster.
Make waffles the night before, and older kids can get their own breakfast.
Of course, all this fun hinges on owning a waffle iron.
If you don’t already have one, the small investment in a waffle iron is worth it.
It’s not necessary to go high end, a very basic model will do.
For my purposes, I prefer a basic waffle maker over a Belgian waffle maker.
Although Belgian waffles are great, they are a little too thick for kids.
What’s so special about waffles?
Just about everything.
But for me, the traditions and memories are the real toppings on the waffles!
