A Hummingbird Feeder that Actually Attracts Hummingbirds

Hummingbird at a feeder

Are you looking for a hummingbird feeder that actually attracts hummingbirds?

If you were to pose that question directly to me, I would point you to the Perky-Pet Hummingbird Feeder (available on Amazon).

I’m into the 2nd year of using this particular hummingbird feeder, and if I needed to replace it today, I would opt for the exact same feeder.

My Short Story

Over the years I’ve had quite a few hummingbird feeders.

Hummingbirds fascinate me so, I like to have a feeder that actually attracts hummingbirds.

For one reason or another, most of them fell short.

A couple of years ago, I happened on this particular feeder on Amazon.

Because the price was right, it was the color I wanted, the design looked decent, and overall, the reviews were good, I decided to give it a shot.

It’s been a solid win!

What I particularly like about it:

Number one, it does the job for which I actually purchased it.

The design of the feeder makes it easy for the birds to get to the nectar, and they show up daily to indulge.

Next up, the bright red color.

Hummingbirds are attracted to bright colors, and the Audubon Society specifically cautions against using dyed nectar.

Since the feeder itself is bright red, it is not necessary to use a nectar with added dye.

If you want to make your own nectar, read this post.

The base is glass.

While having a glass base does present a breaking possibility, in my opinion, glass is superior to plastic.

Over time, plastic tends to fade and look worn.  Glass holds up, even in the bright sun.

Generally, glass is easier to disinfect than plastic due to the non-porous nature of glass.

Note: It’s critical to keep your hummingbird feeder clean.

The glass on the Perky Pet Hummingbird feeder is pretty heavy duty.

Overall, it’s easy to clean.

Even the parts that are plastic are easy to clean.

Soak them in a bowl of hot water, rinse well, and you are good to go.

The price is right.

Let’s face it, at the price of this particular hummingbird feeder, you could purchase multiples without breaking the bank.

What are the negatives?

Honestly, I don’t have anything negative to say.  I’ve read the reviews and haven’t experienced any of the issues about which other users wrote.

The only caution I would add is that when you turn it over after filling it, do so over a sink, or outside where you are planning on hanging it, and flip it fast.  Expect some leakage at this point.

So, if your looking for a hummingbird feeder that actually attracts humming birds, make sure you check out the Perky Pet Hummingbird Feeder.
