Would you like to have an easy and inexpensive way to mark cups and glasses?

I am amazed on a daily basis at the number of dirty cups and glasses I continually load into the dishwasher.

While I would love to place the blame on the other people that reside in my home, the truth is, I am the main culprit.

All of our glasses look the same.  More often than not, I reach for a clean glass in order to ensure that I am not using someone else’s dirty glass.

The need to easily identify at least my own glass sent me on a quest to discover an easy and inexpensive way to mark cups and glasses.

There are several ways to mark cups and glasses.  All good options, but not the ideal one for which I was searching.

Use a Sharpie to mark disposable cups.

A dry erase marker works and checks the boxes of being an easy and inexpensive way to mark cups and glasses.  However, it wipes off too easily to be effective.

Wine charms are cute but work only on glasses that have a stem.

There are wine markers that slip on to a rim of a glass.  In our home, those things would be missing in less than a month.

Inspiration struck in the form of a roll of painter’s tape.

Painter’s tape is both easy to use and inexpensive to purchase.

It adheres easily to both plastic or glass and no sticky residue is left behind when you pull off the tape.

No scissors are necessary since the tape is easy to tear.

A normal pen can be used to write on painter’s tape, although I still prefer the easy to see black Sharpie.

To use painter’s tape as an easy and inexpensive way to mark cups and glasses, simply tear off a piece of painter’s tape, write a name on the tape and stick it on a glass or cup.

Just remember to peel off the tape before putting the cup or glass in the dishwasher.

Reduce or eliminate the need to purchase disposable cups by using painter’s tape to mark them.

Almost everyone has, at one point or another, used a Sharpie to mark disposable cups at family gatherings.

A solution to the expense of continually purchasing disposable cups, is to purchase top-rack, dishwasher safe, plastic cups and use painter’s tape to mark them with a name.

There is a one-time investment in the plastic cups of your choice.

If you want a higher end look for something more than a casual get-together, replace the painter’s tape with washi tape.

Washi tape can be used in the exact same manner as painter’s tape but has the ability to add a higher end or more whimsical touch to marking cups and glasses.

The varieties of washi tape are almost endless.

If you would like to minimize the number of cups and glasses being used in your home, consider using painter’s tape, or washi tape,  as an easy and inexpensive way to mark them.

  1. Just thinking if you have a selection of colors of painters tape or washi tape each person could have his or her own color. Just stick a little piece of tape on the cup and no need to write your name as the design on the tape identifies whose cup it is.
