My Story

As a working mom with four school-age kids, weekdays had the potential to descend into complete chaos.

The sheer number of things that has to happen to keep a household of six running smoothly is mind boggling.

Pretty early on, I realized that if I wanted a smooth week some planning and prep was going to be necessary.

The best day to pull it all together worked out to be Sunday.

Years later, when I no longer have the responsibility for multiple little people, I find myself continuing to rely on Sunday as the day to plan and prep for the coming week.

Over time, I have worked out a very minimal, but critical, number of things I need to do on Sunday to ensure that the coming week stays on track.

Check your calendar

Take note of all the upcoming commitments for the week; doctor’s appointments, ball games, birthday parties, all of it.

Have a plan to know how it’s all going to happen.

Winging it on the day of is not a great plan and results in a high level of stress.

Having a plan ensures that your child is not the one forgotten at the daycare.

Meal Plan for the Week

Walking in the door at night knowing what’s for dinner, is a great stress reducer.

Planning ahead of time allows you to determine if a grocery store run or pick-up is needed.

It also ensures that everyone eats healthier and fast-food meals are kept at a minimum.

Pick out the outfits for the week

Picking out, and putting together, outfits for the week allows time to see if laundry needs to be done.

It eliminates early morning chaos as everyone dives for socks and shoes.

True story: Brian once sent Isaac to school in the winter in sandals with socks.  You really don’t want to do that.  The school tends to frown on it.  (It was snowing).

If outfits are picked out, and laid out, ahead of time, it’s easier for younger kids to dress themselves.

When our kids were little, I had an awesome hanging daily organizer.  It was a life saver.  Our youngest ones were able to easily dress themselves by simply grabbing an outfit from the organizer.

While this isn’t the same one I had, Amazon wasn’t a thing yet, it is similar.

Clean the kitchen on Sunday night

Before going to bed on Sunday night, make sure the kitchen is clean.

While cleaning the kitchen every night is crucial to having a calm home, making sure it’s clean at the start of the week is critical.

Starting the week with a dirty kitchen puts you behind from the get-go.

On Monday morning, you will already be playing catch up.

It’s probable that from that point on, you will be trying to catch up for the rest of the week.

Would you like to enjoy a smoother week?

You can!

By consistently doing these four things , a smoother week is just up ahead
