Make Your Next Vacation a Staycation

Staycation written on a notebook

Does a vacation sound appealing but not currently a realistic option?

Join the growing trend of people choosing to make their next vacation a staycation.

A staycation provides the benefits of a traditional vacation while minimizing the expense and travel hassles.

My story

This story actually belongs to my niece, Abby.

Last summer Abby planned a staycation for herself and her three amazing little girls.

I was in awe of all the fun things they did and places they visited during their staycation week.

Watching them made me wish I had thought of the concept when our kids were growing up.

The best part was, with planning, Abby was able to maximize the fun, and minimize the expense and headaches of traveling with three small children.

A staycation provided the perfect solution for her family.

What is a staycation?

A staycation is the union of the words stay and vacation.

A staycation blends the best parts of staying at home with the best parts of a vacation.

There are a lot of benefits of staying at home for a staycation.

Staying at home on a staycation eliminates the huge expense of lodging.

Since you will leave from, and return to, your own home each day, the expense of staying away from home is completely eliminated.

A huge win!

Everyone sleeps better in their own beds.

Especially kids!

Rooms and beds that are different often cause a sleeping shambles for kids.

Returning home each evening allows little ones to enjoy what’s familiar and wake up the next morning refreshed and ready to go.

A good nights’ sleep tends to make everyone happier!

Boarding pets is not necessary when taking a staycation.

Enjoy peace of mind when leaving your pets.

No boarding is necessary, eliminating a huge expense and hassle.

Counting on friends and neighbors to check on pets won’t be needed.

The most you might need is for someone to stop by for a quick mid-day check in, if your day will be an extended day away from home!

No need to pack a suitcase!

Not needing to plan and pack is a huge win!

Packing enough clothes for a week or two away is a huge stressor.

A staycation requires planning for one day at a time.

With planning, the exact same things that make a vacation special can be duplicated on a staycation.

Spending quality time as a family is one of the best parts of a vacation.

Be it a spouse, kids, friends, or extended family, spending quality time together is often the point of time away.

And that is possible whether it’s a vacation or a staycation.

Break out of the day-to-day rut!

Ditch the day-to-day routines and enjoy what the day has to offer at a leisurely pace.

Catch up on rest.

Go to bed late, get up late, and nap if you so choose.

A staycation may prove better for catching up on rest because you don’t come home at the end of a week needing a vacation to recover.

Enjoy local or nearby attractions.

Most of us are guilty of ignoring the fun things to do and local attractions within an easy driving distance of home.

I’m guilty.

I live in West Virginia.  Everything that I could possibly want to do is within a three-hour drive of home, yet I have barely scratched the surface of fun things to do in West Virginia.

A staycation makes you take notice of all the fun things there are to do close to home.

A staycation can be as short, or as long, as you like.

Two days or two weeks, the length of time can be tailored to work for your unique situation.

Multiple short staycations are completely doable.

Eat out or eat in.

Eating out at a restaurant you’ve been wanting to try makes the day special and keeps anyone from having to cook.

Or eat in.  If someone enjoys cooking, a staycation provides the perfect opportunity to plan and cook a special meal at a leisurely pace.

Does a vacation sound appealing but not currently a realistic option?

Make your next vacation a staycation.

You might just be surprised at how very much a staycation has to offer!
