No Carve, Kid-Friendly, Pumpkin Decorating Ideas!

Would you like to be able to include everyone in the pumpkin decorating fun?

Not all pumpkin decorating needs to include carving.

Instead of carving, opt for a no carve, kid-friendly pumpkin decorating session in which even the youngest toddler will enjoy participating.

My Story

With four kids in the house, pumpkin carving night was a big deal.

Unfortunately, until they were older, carving night consisted of the kids’ drawing the face on the pumpkin and Brian doing the bulk of the carving.

It was fun, but looking back, it would have been nice if we had thought of incorporating some kid-friendly, no carving pumpkin decorating ideas into the evening.

Flash forward and now four of my grandkids live next door.

As I stepped over the heap of painted pumpkins, I had to smile.

Painting pumpkins, instead of carving them, had enabled all of them, even the two-year-old, to fully participate in the fun.

Seeing the painted pumpkins sent me on a quest to come up with some really good, no carve, kid-friendly pumpkin decorating ideas.

Here are my best ideas for decorating pumpkins, no carving required.

Paint

Kids love to paint.

Put the pumpkins, and kids, in a paint safe area, and let them paint away.

You will be amazed at how long painting pumpkins will keep them busy.

Dry Erase Markers

Using dry erase markers to decorate the pumpkin allows for endless decorating.

Once decorated, enjoy them for a day or so, wipe them clean, and redecorate.

Of course, normal markers can be used too.

However, like paint, they are once and done.

Colored Tape

Kids love tape!

Turn them loose with different colored rolls of tape and watch the fun unroll (literally!)

Washi tape, duct tape, craft tape, any kind of tape will work.

Mix and match whatever you have in the house.

If you want the traditional Jack O Lantern face, make it with tape.

Stickers

Like tape, kids love stickers

Pick up some inexpensive, seasonal stickers and use them to decorate the pumpkins.

Let them sticker the pumpkins as long as they want.

If you want to splurge, there’s some really fun pumpkin decorating stickers available on Amazon.

Push Pin Thumb Tacks

For the kid that’s a little bit older, use multicolored push pin thumb tacks to decorate the pumpkin.

Decorate the pumpkin by pushing the colored push pin into the pumpkin in whatever design they like.

This one requires supervision by an adult.

Still fun but just be a little more alert!

If you think of a pumpkin as a canvas to be decorated, instead of a pumpkin that has to be carved, the ideas for decorating are endless.

So, grab the pumpkins, the craft supplies, and the kids.

And enjoy a kid-friendly, no carve, pumpkin decorating night!

Not all pumpkins need to be carved.
