My Story
Years ago I started hearing about these amazing microfiber cleaning cloths. Using only water, the cloths were guaranteed to remove up to 99 percent of bacteria from surfaces.
Although I was intrigued, the combination of my skepticism and the price deterred me from giving them a try.
Fast forward to a girl’s trip to Lancaster where I happened on a different brand of microfiber cloths promising the same results.
The one that reeled me in was the E Cloth Window Cleaning Kit. (affiliate link)
The E Cloth Window Cleaning Kit(affiliate link) promises an easy, streak free way to wash windows using only water.
If there was even a remote possibility there was an easier way to wash windows, I felt duty bound to try it.
The purchase was a huge win for me, making me a believer in the magic of using microfiber.
Following my purchase, I realized that the magic was in the cloth itself and not the name brand.
And me, being me, had to find out, and share, what’s so special about microfiber.
First, what in the world is microfiber?
Microfiber is a textile made up from super fine synthetic yarns split into millions of microscopic fibers.
The microscopic fibers are one hundred times thinner than a human hair.
Each tiny fiber has been split, making each and every fiber work like a mini shovel.
The magic of microfiber cloths is the result of these uniquely shaped, super fine fibers.
What makes microfiber so great for cleaning?
In a nutshell, their ability to pick up germs is the number one reason microfiber cloths are the best option for cleaning.
If this were the only reason to switch to microfiber, it would be enough.
A quality microfiber cloth picks up, as opposed to moving around, up to 99 percent of dirt, germs, and bacteria from a wide variety of surfaces.
The cloth itself does not kill the germs but hangs onto them with the tenacity of a Pitbull until the cloth is rinsed.
When rinsed, the fibers relax, rinsing the dirt and germs right down the drain or into the bucket.
In addition to picking up germs, microfiber cloths are super absorbent.
A quality microfiber cloth can absorb up to seven times its weight in liquid making cleaning up sloppy messes a snap.
Microfiber cloths are lint free, making them an ideal choice to use on windows and any surface that tends to streak.
Good-bye window cleaner!
Microfiber works best on glass using only water. Use a wet cloth to wipe down mirrors and windows and a dry one to wipe them dry.
My window washing routine has been forever changed.
There are different weaves of microfiber designed for different jobs.
An ordinary microfiber cloth (affiliate link)is good for most jobs. However, different weaves are better for different jobs.
If you want to clean something specific, like electronics (affiliate link), make sure you pick the cloth best suited for the job.
Feel free to use your microfiber cloth dry!
Want to dust without dusting spray? Grab a dry microfiber cloth and go to town. Prepare to be amazed at how much dust a dry cloth can pick up!
Want to keep your car dust free? Keep a dry microfiber dusting rag in the glove compartment?
Fun fact! A glove compartment is so named for its original purpose of storing gloves. In the early years of vehicles, gloves were considered essential equipment to keep in your car.
If you’ve heard the hype, and like me, you are a skeptic, rest assured, the hype is real!
Grab a microfiber cloth and start cleaning!
You will never again want to use an ordinary rag for cleaning.
Stay tuned for a future post on how to care for your microfiber cloth.
