Would you like a cleaning routine that frees up your weekends?

Two Evenings to a Clean Home is a realistic alternative to the traditional cleaning day that delivers amazing results.

My Story

For years, Saturday was my designated cleaning day.

While my daily routines kept our home under control, Saturday basically served as a reset, restoring our home to a calm and clean enough state.

It was a routine that worked. Until it didn’t.

Our circumstances have changed and I no longer want to spend a substantial part of Saturday cleaning.

However, finding a new routine that works as well as having a dedicated cleaning day has been challenging.

I feel like Goldilocks. I want a routine that’s not too much, and not too little.

After much trial and error, I finally found an alternative that’s just right; Two Evenings to a Clean Home.

The Cleaning Day Tradition

Growing up, Saturday was cleaning day.

It was a tradition handed down to my mom who, in turn, handed it down to us.

It was a day when we came together as a family to tidy up, dust, sweep, and mop our entire house.

As a kid, I can’t say I loved it.

As an adult, I appreciate the effectiveness of the tradition.

There’s just something mentally satisfying about a cleaning day that’s once and done, bringing everything to clean and calm in one blowout session.

The Problem

As much as I love the once and done concept, the time commitment is just too much.

Who wants to spend their day cleaning at the expense of pretty much everything else?

Additionally, skipping just one weekend of cleaning too often results in an out-of-control home.

Unrealistic Alternatives

I’ve read about most of the alternatives and tried many.

The problem with most alternatives is there is the missing feeling of being “done.”

Instead, cleaning always feels like it’s “in progress.”

In addition, beyond the basics, I don’t want to commit to cleaning every single night.

Two Evenings to Clean

Commit to Two Evenings

Pick two evenings, any two evenings, as long as they are a few days apart.

The chosen evenings can be the same each week, or they can change, depending on your schedule.

Plan Ahead

Plan ahead for the evening.

Do not try to have a lengthy cleaning evening and prepare a big meal too.

Bring home pizza or fix something something super easy that requires minimal prep and clean up.

Clean!

The Tasks

The primary task is simply making sure everything is returned to its rightful home.

It is the main thing that makes a home look and feel clean.

No invisible clutter!

Beyond that, cycle clean, meaning don’t try to do all tasks every time you clean, instead, cycle through them.

One night, dust, the next evening you clean, dust ceiling fans, and so on, until you’ve cycled through all the tasks you want to complete.

And then start cycling again.

Make Cleaning Convenient

You don’t need a lot of cleaning supplies, but whatever you use, make sure they are conveniently located.

If you have a main floor, and an upstairs, keep cleaning supplies on both levels.

It wastes time running up and down the stairs to grab cleaning supplies.

I don’t use a lot of product, but I do use microfiber cloths just like they are paper towels.

Focus on the common areas of your home.

Bedrooms can wait (that’s always been my philosophy).

The one task I save for the weekends is floors. Sweeping and scrubbing is too time-consuming for me to try to fit in on a weeknight.

Although I do often run my robot vacuum, just not every time.

Time Commitment

The first evening session took me about two hours, the second evening, less than an hour.

It’s kind of amazing how fast cleaning really goes when you keep up with it twice a week and focus solely on cleaning.

Are you looking for a cleaning routine that delivers results without the enormous time commitment?

Two Evenings to a Clean Home is the answer. Try it and get back to enjoying your weekend!
